Monday night I was putting Taylor to bed. We went through our typical routine of dinner, bath, family prayer, reading, singing, snuggling until it was time to put her in her crib. When I stood up to lay her down she said, "No momma, I snuggle!" and nuzzled into my shoulder. Who could resist that? I sure couldn't, so we sat back down in her rocking chair and sang some more songs and snuggled some more until she was ready to go to sleep. A lot of nights I feel like I barely have time to do anything- after I put Taylor to bed I race around like a mad woman trying to get everything ready for the morning. I make sure the house is clean, the dishes are done, the lunches are made, the laundry is folded...etc. so that when I get up at 4:45 (or at least when my alarm goes off) the morning runs smoothly and I get to work on time. Some nights I race through the routine so that I can move on to the next step forgetting how precious the time I get to spend with my darling little girl is. When I was a baby my mom cross-stitched this quote:
"Cleaning and scrubbing can wait 'til tomorrow for babies grow up we've learned to our sorrow. So quiet down cobwebs, dust go to sleep. I'm rocking my baby and babies don't keep."
I couldn't help but think of it as I quietly sang to and rocked my little girl. Yes, of course I had things that needed to get done, but nothing in this world can compare to snuggling a baby who wants to be snuggled!!!

I'm thinking that broom would look really good in Joel's hands.
I love that little saying! For some reason every time I see pictures Taylor I am reminded of Bella when she was a baby. I was showing some pictures of Taylor to Greg and he totally agrees. All my pictures from when Bella was a baby are on film so I will try to scan them in so you can see what I am talking about. She is just too cute!
I've never heard that before...it is so beautiful and so true. I find myself focusing on the housework, the dinner, and the laundry way more than I should most of the time, and you're right--they are only little once and we never get this time with them back! And 4:45 am...holy cow Annie, how do you do it?
We had that saying on an embroidery something-or-other hanging on our wall growing up. I'm not surprised, since our mothers are basically the same person.
I had tears in my eyes while reading your post. I am happy that you realize how precious her babyhood is now,and that you are savoring it. She is such a joy.
A funny thing about the embroidery that I did with that poem...When David and Angela were dating and David first went to the Hansen's home, there was the exact same piece of embroidery there, that Kathy (Angela's mom) had done. It was a Sunset Stitchery kit and we had both done the same kit.
Thanks for the post! I had read it a few days ago and just the other morning Jakob was asking me to hold him and I caught myself saying, "I need to just finish cleaning the counters and then I will hold you". As soon as I said that I remembered the poem that you posted and I stopped. He is in need of a lot of attention now and I appreciate you helping me to remember he's more important than having a clean kitchen.
So stinking cute! What a beautiful little girl you have.
Hey Annie! I have loved your chocolate chip cookie recipe for years and now, I have lost it! Can you email it to me? pegalina1@yahoo.com
Thanks!
Oh, Annie, that is so sweet. I needed that. I often get so set up in my schedule that I don't do what's most important when times like those come up. You are such a darling little Mom, I can tell. I just love ya. Shelly
